The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without the services of wide receiver Eli Rogers in the team’s first game of the 2018 NFL campaign because of suspension.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert announced, via Pittsburgh’s official website, that Rogers has been handed out the penalty due to a violation of the league’s policy on substance abuse, though, the press release does not specify what the wideout took that resulted to the suspension.

We are disappointed that Eli Rogers has been suspended for Week 1 of the regular season as part of the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

The suspension will begin following the final roster cutdown on September 1.

Despite the suspension, the announcement also said that Rogers will still be allowed to have his rehabilitation and take part in team meetings at the Steelers ‘headquarters.

Eli Rogers last saw action in a divisional-round playoff match with the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he also tore his ACL before going under the knife to repair it. It was an untimely injury for Rogers since he was then headed to free agency, but the Steelers still decided to sign him to a one-year deal worth $630,000.

Rogers played 14 games in 2017 and recorded just 149 receiving yards and a touchdown on 18 receptions. He also did some work with the special teams, racking up 146 yards on 19 punt returns.

The soonest he can play in the regular season is in Pittsburgh’s Sep. 16 home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.
