Just about everything went right for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night as they pounded the Carolina Panthers, 52-21. But the big thing that didn’t go the Steelers’ way was the injury to star running back James Conner.

Conner is in the league's concussion protocol after suffering a hit in the third quarter against the Panthers, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said per Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com.

Conner was initially examined in the sideline medical tent during the third quarter after taking a hit. He later returned to the game but eventually headed to the locker room in the fourth quarter and did not return.

The second-year running back had 65 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries before exiting the game. That snapped Conner’s impressive streak of four consecutive games with at least 100 rushing yards. But with Ben Roethlisberger absolutely rolling, the Steelers didn't need a big night from the young running back.

Conner has been spectacular for the Steelers while filling in for holdout Le’Veon Bell. He has 771 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs to go with 39 receptions for 387 yards and one receiving score on the season.

If there’s any positive that Pittsburgh can take away from Conner’s concussion, it’s that he’ll have three extra days to recover for their next game, which is against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 19.

The Steelers will be eager to get some revenge against the Jaguars, who defeated them in both of their meetings last season, including their playoff matchup. Hopefully, Conner will have recovered from his concussion and will be available to play in that game to help Pittsburgh get some payback.
