The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to head into a crucial matchup in the season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals with their playoff chances hanging in the balance.

Pittsburgh may have a significant boost in the backfield with Pro Bowl running back James Conner putting together a full workload in practice on Wednesday, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Steelers have been without the services of Conner for the last two weeks due to a high-ankle sprain that occurred in the 33-30 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. In his absence, it has seen rookie Jaylen Samuels step into the mix as the leading factor in the backfield rushing for 223 yards in the last three weeks.

When healthy, Conner has proven to be highly productive as he has 909 rushing yards along with being third with 12 rushing touchdowns along with hauling in 52 catches for 467 receiving yards and a touchdown. He has also recorded more than 100 rushing yards five times while becoming the first player in league history to post four games within a single season of 100-plus rushing yards, 50-plus receiving yards, and a touchdown.

This is an encouraging first step for Conner as it should put him on track to be able to take the field against the Bengals. Before that could be the case, he will first have to put together two more days of practice over the rest of the week. In the meantime, this puts on the table the possibility that he will be back in the mix for the season finale.
