Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden is entering the final year of his deal, and both sides would like to come to some agreement, so a contract extension has been discussed.

Haden hopes the deal can get done soon and doesn't seem all that concerned:

“We’re communicating, so that’s a good thing,” Haden said, according to Brian Batko of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I’m trying not to worry about it, but I’m optimistic. We’re working on it.”

Haden is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 15 games, registering 63 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a forced fumble and 12 passes defended.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns with the seventh overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie year, recording 57 tackles, a sack, six interceptions, a forced fumble, and 18 passes defended. By his fourth year in the league, Haden was a Pro Bowler, tallying 54 tackles, four picks, 20 passes defended and a defensive touchdown in 2013. He then followed that up by making another Pro Bowl in 2014, courtesy of totaling 73 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries and 20 passes defended.

Haden proceeded to play in just five games in 2015 due to injuries, and after participating in 13 games in 2016, the Browns went on to cut Haden shortly before the 2017 campaign. The Steelers then immediately signed him to a three-year deal.

Pittsburgh went 9-6-1 this past year, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
