While the Pittsburgh Steelers failed once again to reach a long-term deal with running back Le'Veon Bell, the Los Angeles Rams managed to take care of one of their own in running back Todd Gurley. It is reported that Gurley and the Rams have agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal with $45 million guaranteed.

Needless to say, the deal caught Bell's attention. He congratulated Gurley on his new contract via Twitter:

Bell even followed up with a dig at those who question his value.

Bell's praise indeed comes as no surprise. He and Gurley have been at the forefront of working to get better deals for running backs. The latter has supported Bell in his search for a lucrative long-term deal ever since it started a few years ago. That said, Gurley's contract is a win for elite running backs throughout the league who are looking to secure the bag in the near future.

While Bell is clearly happy for his good friend, there has to be a part of him that wishes his team took the same initiative as the Rams did. He has widely been considered the best running back in the league for quite some time now, yet he remains without any long-term security.

The three-time Pro Bowler will play the 2018 NFL season under a second consecutive franchise tag, and reports from his camp indicate this could be his last year in Pittsburgh. Regardless, Gurley's deal will undoubtedly serve as a benchmark for running backs like him, David Johnson, and Ezekiel Elliott that are on the cusp of negotiations for their new contracts.
