The Pittsburgh Steelers are expecting Ben Roethlisberger to be ready for the 2020 season, but Mason Rudolph is also recovering from his own injury. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Rudolph has resumed throwing for the first time since his injury.

Rudolph suffered the aforementioned fractured AC joint in Week 16 versus the New York Jets. As a result, Rudolph underwent shoulder surgery in December and was given a timetable of six-to-eight weeks before he began throwing again.

Now, two months after the surgery, the former third-round pick is starting to throw a football. Depending on his recovery progress, Rudolph should be ready in time for offseason activities.

Early in the 2019 season, Roethlisberger sustained a season-ending elbow injury. When Roethlisberger went down, both Rudolph and undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges spent time as the Steelers starting quarterback.

In his eight starts, Rudolph completed 61.4 percent of his attempts for 1,524 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Following a rough stretch later in the season, the Steelers benched Rudolph in favor of Hodges.

With Roethlisberger also on the mend, Rudolph could see meaningful snaps under center this offseason. After the 2019 season concluded, Mike Tomlin exclaimed that the team was ‘comfortable' with Rudolph as their backup quarterback.

With that being said, Tomlin would love it if Rudolph didn't need to see the field at all next season. Of course, Pittsburgh would prefer that Roethlisberger starts in all 16 games for just the fifth time in his career. At the least, the Steelers appear to have both of their top quarterbacks trending toward being ready for the 2020 season.
