The Pittsburgh Steelers will begin a new era next season, as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won't be under center for the franchise after filling that role since the 2004 season. With Roethlisberger retiring, the Steelers will be forced to find a successor at the QB spot. Head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to reporters Tuesday and addressed the team's QB situation post-Roethlisberger. Here are Tomlin's words via Brian Batko of Post-Gazette Sports.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin mentioned Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins as possible options at QB for the franchise with Ben Roethlisberger retiring. Neither of those options are going to have Pittsburgh fans thinking championship in 2022.

However, Tomlin went on to say that “all options are on the table” for the Steelers when it comes to their 2022 QB situation. He mentioned the draft and free agency but interestingly enough, did not bring up trades as a potential option.

It sounds like the Steelers post-Roethlisberger QB plans are to explore options but to fall back on Rudolph and Haskins in the worst-case scenario. It doesn't sound like the Pittsburgh front office is thinking home run at this time.

Mason Rudolph as the 2022 QB for Pittsburgh certainly wouldn't be ideal, as the Oklahoma State product didn't wow anyone during his stint as a starter in 2019, throwing for 13 scores against nine interceptions while leading the team to a 5-3 record.

Mike Tomlin understandably won't commit to anything at this time, but Steelers fans are probably hoping for something more than Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins in Pittsburgh's post-Ben Roethlisberger 2022 QB plans.

It will be interesting to see how things play out this offseason.
