The Pittsburgh Steelers benched Devlin Hodges mid-game this past weekend because of his four-interception day in a loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.

However, Mason Rudolph suffered a shoulder injury against the New York Jets this past Saturday, which forced Hodges back under center. Hodges had already thrown two picks against New York and couldn't pull off the win back in the game after Rudolph's injury.

Now, with Rudolph out for the season due to a shoulder injury, the Steelers will have to turn back to Hodges as the starter for their season finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

With a playoff spot on the line, head coach Mike Tomlin wants Hodges to take better care of the football:

“You know, seriously. We’ve got to take care of the football,” said Tomlin, according to Chris Adamski of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “You can make a bad decision – but (with) a ridiculous, awesome throw, it’s irrelevant, you know what I mean? So I mean that in all sincerity – we’ve got take care of the football, and some of that minutiae is less important about intentions relative to performance.”

An undrafted rookie out of Samford, Hodges got his first opportunity to start back in Week 6 when Rudolph was sidelined with a concussion.

After going back to the bench in Week 7, Hodges displaced Rudolph as the starter in Week 13 and put forth a couple of decent performances in a pair of Steelers wins before his nightmarish outing against the Bills.

In seven appearances and five starts this season overall, Hodges has thrown for 968 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 67.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 75.8.

Pittsburgh needs a win coupled with a Tennessee Titans loss to the Houston Texans to make the playoffs.
