Now that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has fired some key members of the coaching staff, reports suggest that he's looking to “beef it up” with some new key players.

Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he's looking to add an assistant by the beginning of the season. It's unclear what this “assistant” will do, and in what capacity. But, as Steelers fans already know, Tomlin has more than his fair share of problems with keeping personnel.

He's already let linebackers coach Joey Porter go — which was an easy firing, given that he failed to take the team to the playoffs this year. This, coupled with Porter's 2017 arrest right before a Steelers game, made it easy to dismiss Porter without a second thought.

Additionally, Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak — as has been previously reported — is a finalist for the head coaching position with the Denver Broncos. If he had left for the position, the Steelers would have been without an offensive line coach, but they should be safe with Denver hiring Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for the position.

Mike Tomlin's most controversial firing was of running backs coach James Saxon. Saxon, who was with the team for five seasons, was well-liked and well-respected by the players. As has been previously reported, players are reportedly “dumbfounded” by the firing of their beloved coach.

So, it seems like Mike Tomlin has to “restock” his entire Steelers supplemental team, which is absolutely necessary after the Steelers' less-than-stellar play this past season. That said, Tomlin also needs to learn to adapt, himself, as well.
