Ben Roethlisberger's future with the Pittsburgh Steelers is up in the air, with the 38-year-old quarterback showing signs of slowing down, especially late in this 2020 season. Many people around the NFL believe that head coach Mike Tomlin will have a huge say in whether the Steelers will keep Big Ben in their plans moving forward.

Via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

The Steelers will not meet to evaluate their roster until after the season, and Ben Roethlisberger's declining play has yet to be a topic of many internal discussions there, sources said. But when the quarterback position is sized up in 2021, league sources indicated coach Mike Tomlin will play a critical role in however Pittsburgh moves forward.

After starting off the 2020 campaign with 11 straight wins, the Steelers have lost three straight. A part of their struggles as of late has to do with Roethlisberger's subpar play, especially over this rough stretch. This could certainly be a case of Father Time catching up with the 17-year veteran. Thus, Pittsburgh fizzles out in the playoffs, it might be best for the organization to go the youth route and look at their quarterback of the future.

Nonetheless, it's certainly unthinkable to imagine Roethlisberger playing in a different uniform. The man has had so much history with the franchise that took him 11th overall back in the 2004 draft. He has been a staple with the Steelers organization and even led them to Super Bowl titles in 2005 and 2008.

Roethlisberger wants to return, but stranger things have happened, especially over the last few seasons. None was more shocking than seeing Tom Brady leave the New England Patriots, so perhaps Big Ben might be the next to make a move from the squad that he has known since he entered the NFL.
