Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris was placed on the injury report earlier Thursday with a foot injury, as noted by Steelers beat writer Dale Lolley. This is the first time Harris has been on the injured report.

Harris was not on the injury report Wednesday, leaving speculation that he injured his foot during practice Thursday.

It is never a good sign when a player appears on the injury report during the week. In this case, knowing how healthy Najee Harris has been all season, it is particularly alarming.

Harris is having a great rookie year with the Steelers and proving why fantasy managers drafted him in the early rounds of their draft. He is 10th in the NFL in rushing with 541 rushing yards and 4 scores on the ground.

However, his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield has really set him apart. Harris has 40 catches for another 289 yards receiving, with 2 receiving touchdowns.

He ranks 4th in the entire NFL in PPR scoring among running backs. That is a solid investment. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger struggled to get the ball downfield, which has allowed Harris to be more productive in the passing game.

Harris caught 14 passes in a single games this season, Week 3 vs the Bengals.

Pittsburgh hosts the winless Detroit Lions Sunday. If Harris is forced to miss the game due to the foot injury, some combination of Benny Snell Jr. and Kalen Ballage would probably fill in. Neither player is the most inspiring option. But knowing the opponent, and the most likely game script with the Steelers leading, they could still be worth adding as a potential flex spot.
