Colin Kaepernick appears to be drumming up interest from teams, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. But whether or not a team actually signs him remains to be seen. While rumors continue to float around, ESPN's Domonique Foxworth lobbied for the Pittsburgh Steelers to sign Kaepernick.

Ever since he kneeled during the national anthem in 2016, Kaepernick has been a polarizing figure in the NFL. Just a year after he began speaking out against racial injustice and other social issues, the mobile quarterback was blackballed by the league.

Nevertheless, fast forward to 2020 and Kaepernick still remains unemployed in the NFL. But that could be subject to change if a team finally gives him a chance to prove that he can still play. One team that does seem to make sense is the Steelers.

Last season, Pittsburgh witnessed Ben Roethlisberger suffer a season-ending injury in Week 2. As a result, the Steelers were inclined to turn to Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges under center. While Pittsburgh was confident in their quarterback room, that confidence proved to be for naught.

Altogether, Rudolph and Hodges combined for only 2,828 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Above all, both of them were the main culprits in the Steelers failing to make the postseason.

Despite the poor quarterback play in 2019, Mike Tomlin exclaimed that he was ‘comfortable' with Rudolph as the backup to Roethlisberger. However, why not upgrade the position and sign Kaepernick this offseason?

Even at 32 years old, Kaepernick would be a massive upgrade over what the Steelers have behind Roethlisberger currently. Also, if Roethlisberger gets injured again, then Pittsburgh needs someone that can light a spark in the offense.

In light of that, Foxworth — along with others — believes the Steelers and Kaepernick are a perfect match.
