Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is heading into his 15th season in the NFL. But like his other star quarterback contemporaries, it doesn’t look like Big Ben is slowing down at all. In fact, the 36-year-old might be having the best camp of his career. At least, that’s what new Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner believes.

“I would say it’s the best camp he’s had,” said Fichtner per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The only reason I say this is because he’s in the best shape since I’ve had him. Now, obviously, when you’re younger you know you can probably move a little better, maybe his arm might have been a tad livelier.”

Fichtner, who has been with the Steelers since 2007, notes how Roethlisberger feels much better physically this year and believes this is the best shape he's ever seen Big Ben. That improved physical condition is a testament to Big Ben changing his diet and losing weight this offseason to help prolong his career.

After contemplating retirement a couple seasons ago, Roethlisberger has had a change of heart and says he wants to play a few more years. By the looks of his performance in camp, it certainly seems as if he’s really taken that goal to heart and may actually be capable of following through with it.

It’s obviously great to hear that Roethlisberger is having such a great camp. Hopefully, his rejuvenated body can carry over his good form into the regular season, where he can continue to produce impressive performances.
