Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi had high hopes for a potential resurgence in the 2019 NFL season. Unfortunately, he has suffered a bit of a setback this preseason.

Adeniyi revealed through his socail media accounts that he had undergone surgery. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he is slated to miss the next 2-4 weeks while recovering from a meniscus tear.

Adeniyi signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent last year, however, he was placed on injured reserve prior to the 2018 campaign. Although he managed to make his rookie debut at the end of the season, it was hardly enough for the former Toldeo product to find his footing. The timetable for his current injury means he will likely miss the rest of this preseason as well.

Pittsburgh has put an emphasis on shoring up its linebacker corps in recent years. Adeniyi was proving to be quite the steal with a strong showing in training camp this year. He registered three tackles and a quarterback hit after earning the starting job in the preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Bay Buccaneers.

The silver lining in all of this is that the injury does not appear to be too severe. Adeniyi should be able to pick up where he left off in time for the start of the 2019 campaign. He may very well face even more competition when he returns now that the Steelers have signed outside linebacker Christian Kuntz in a corresponding move.
