The Pittsburgh Steelers have a number of voids to fill on their roster if they hope to avoid any serious turnover this offseason. It appears they will look to secure a tight end in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Steelers currently own the 20th overall pick in the upcoming draft. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

“All I will say is, do not be shocked if the Steelers take a TE in the first round,” Dulac said.

The prospect of the Steelers using their first-rounder on a tight end is certainly not too far-fetched. QuarterbackBen Roethlisberger has made due with the tight ends in his stable for the last several years. Bringing in an elite talent at the position could be a game-changer for an offense that has lost some serious star power as of late.

Pittsburgh parted ways with both wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell this offseason. There is no question that the absence of arguably two of the best players at their position will be felt by the Steelers next season. Fortunately, they have viable replacements to take over for each player in wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and running back James Conner. What the Steelers do lack is a true playmaker at tight end.

Iowa tight ends Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson are slated as two of the best tight end prospects in the draft. There is a good chance that either one of them could be on the board by the time the Steelers pick. It will be interesting to see if this is the route they choose.
