At this point in his career, it seems as if Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is now regularly reaching historic milestones on a season-by-season basis.

For one, Roethlisberger was not at his usual best during the Steelers' Week 1 opener against the Buffalo Bills, as he recorded under 200 passing yards and posted a passer rating of 83.9.

Still, Roethlisberger delivered when it mattered, as was seen when he connected with wide receiver Diontae Johnson for a crucial fourth quarter touchdown.

This passing touchdown for Roethlisberger was the 397th of his career. With a mere three more passing touchdowns, the veteran quarterback will become the eighth player in NFL history to record at least 400 career passing touchdowns. Roethlisberger would then join longtime passers such as Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in this exclusive passing touchdowns club, as the fourth overall selection in the 2004 NFL Draft finished his career with 421 passing touchdowns.

For now, it is surely a matter of time before Roethlisberger reaches this historic milestone, and it could come as soon as Pittsburgh's upcoming home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. Still, it is not a forgone conclusion that the future Hall of Famer will achieve this feat in the upcoming clash with the Raiders, especially as he holds a career 2-5 record against the AFC West side.

When he reaches this milestone, the attention will then shift as to just how many passing touchdowns Roethlisberger will finish his career with. It is quite a longshot to project that the two-time Super Bowl winner will end up with at least 500 career passing touchdowns, but he does have a realistic shot at passing the likes of Rivers (421) and Dan Marino (420) in this list. This would surely add to what is already a stout legacy for him with the Steelers.
