After back-to-back winless results, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now on the outside looking in with the chaotic AFC playoff picture.

The Steelers currently hold the No. 8 seed in the AFC. If the season were to end today, they would miss out on playing playoff football in January for the third time in the last four seasons, while their AFC North rivals in the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals would each clinch playoff berths.

Even as the Steelers are coming off of back-to-back sluggish performances, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still much confident in where his team is at this point in the campaign, which he opened up about during a press conference ahead of the Week 12 road clash with the Bengals.

“In the AFC, it is kind of crazy right now,” Roethlisberger said. “It’s always been about when you get hot, when you turn it on. You can sit there and say we won four or five in a row and we lost a game. But just because you lost a game doesn’t mean that you’re still not trending in the right direction. I still think this team is trending in the right direction.”

On Roethlisberger’s part, his season is now gradually trending in the right direction, especially as he has recorded five straight games with at least one passing touchdown and zero interceptions.

In the big picture, another notable winning streak may be needed from the Steelers if they aspire to not only make a late playoff push but also to keep their hopes alive in the AFC North race.
