Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan (per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk) had a radical suggestion for the Steelers: trade Mike Tomlin, and promote Mike Munchak to the head coaching position. As radical as this idea sounds, on the surface, it's actually not that bad of an idea.

One of the main reasons that Fillipponi feels that Munchak should become the head coach has everything to do with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger: he's currently on a mission for the team to keep Munchak in whatever capacity.

“I pray that fans write as many letters as they can to Mr. [Art] Rooney to keep Coach Munchak around. He’s such a special coach. When the linemen are happy and love to play for their coach, they play better.”

The question, then, begs itself: if the Steelers were to trade Mike Tomlin, where would he go?

Three of the NFC's coaching vacancies have, as of this writing, been filled. That means Tomlin's only options are in the AFC: Jets, Dolphins, Browns, Bengals, Broncos.

That said, if word gets out that Tomlin is suddenly available, a team with a coach under contract may be prompted into the possibility of exploring its options.

Still, Florio doesn't believe that a Mike Tomlin trade will be a viable option, in the first place, for the Steelers. There's no other indication — aside from Roethlisberger's tantrums — that suggests that Tomlin isn't a good fit for the team, or that he should be fired from his position within the team to promote Mike Munchak to the head coaching position.
