The Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to bring back veteran running back Stevan Ridley on a one-year deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Veteran NFL RB Stevan Ridley, who finished last season with Pittsburgh, is resigning on a one-year with the Steelers, per source.

Ridley, 29, signed with the Steelers on Dec. 19 last year. He appeared in just two games in the regular season for the Steelers, rushing for 108 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Ridley has found it tough finding a new home since he left the New England Patriots, who drafted him in the third round in 2011. He’s been with seven teams over the last three years but has played just 11 games. He did not play a single snap for the Lions, Colts, and Broncos after signing with them in recent offseasons.

However, he seems to have made enough of an impression during his relatively brief time with the Steelers that they decided to keep him on for next season.

Ridley will add another body to a Steelers running back depth chart that still doesn’t have Le’Veon Bell locked up. James Conner, last year’s third-round pick, and Fitzgerald Toussaint were the only other running backs signed on for next season prior to Ridley re-signing.

At this stage in his career, Ridley doesn’t seem like someone capable of stepping up to lead back role for the Steelers in the event that Bell doesn’t sign for next season. However, he could potentially be thrust into that role should things go south with the Bell negotiations. But if Bell does re-sign, Ridley would slot in nicely as more of a complementary back.
