While the start of the 2020 NFL season may be just over a week away, the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have a strong feel for how their immediate future will look beyond this year.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's plans to continue playing a few more seasons. Team president Art Rooney II acknowledged whether or not extensions for head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert could also be in the works, per Ed Bouchette in The Athletic:

“We’ll address that after the season,’’ Steelers president Art Rooney II said. “I think we’re comfortable where we are. Both Kevin and Mike have done a great job for us, and I would hope they continue on. Now, our focus is really on playing this season and hopefully having a successful season.”

Although Rooney is hesitant to provide any indication of Pittsburgh's looming plans, all signs point toward him keeping things intact for a few more years. Of course, his comments indicate that the team's showing this year will ultimately help determine his plans for Tomlin and Colbert.

Although both are under contract through 2021, the Steelers still have a club option on Tomlin for 2022 while Colbert will be finishing out the final season of the extension he signed last year. This means Rooney could be inclined to renew both of their deals along with Roethlisberger should he commit to sticking around.

Pittsburgh managed to surpass expectations by nearly making the playoffs despite Roethlisberger's absence. It will be interesting to see if they are able to follow through on them this time around.
