The Pittsburgh Steelers formally announced that they would be putting offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert on injury reserve, sidelining him for the rest of the season.

The veteran right tackle was put on injured reserve on Saturday, after missing seven consecutive games with a knee injury. He had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

The 30-year-old Gilbert was a second-round pick of the Steelers in 2011. He became a full-time starter as a rookie, and has had the job since. He's only given up 32 penalties in the 88 games he's played in a Steelers uniform. Gilbert is under contract through 2019.

Matt Fieler has replaced Gilbert at right tackle. He will now have that duty for as long as Pittsburgh’s season happens to last.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently 7-5-1 ranking first in the ACF North Divison under head coach Mike Tomlin. They are on a three-game losing streak after losing to the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Oakland Raiders by a field goal each. This can beat nearly anyone in football but have had trouble pulling out games at the end.
