Ryan Shazier has been making steady progress in recovering from a scary injury he suffered in 2017. He still has his sights set on a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though there are risks involved, Shazier is still working to get back on the playing field.

“When you’re dealing with Ryan, you’re not dealing with a timetable,” Colbert said, via Bob Labriola of the team website. “You’re dealing with a guy trying to resurrect his career.”

Since Shazier's unfortunate spinal injury in 2017, the Steelers have kept him on the team's roster. When the injury first occurred, the former first-round pick was told that he may not be able to walk again.

Despite the odds being against him, Shazier has learned to walk again. As a matter of fact, he was able to dance at his own wedding. After spending two seasons on Pittsburgh's physically unable to perform list, Shazier's contract with the Steelers is set to expire this offseason.

Nearly a month ago, Art Rooney II—the owner of the Steelers—said that Pittsburgh would love to have him back in some capacity. Given his current situation, it remains to be seen if the Steelers re-sign him.

In Shazier's first four seasons, he accumulated 299 tackles, 25 deflections, seven forced fumbles, and seven interceptions. Now, with Devin Bush manning the inside linebacker position, the ideal situation would be to pair him with Shazier.

Until Shazier proves he is healthy, it is going to be an uphill climb for him to play football again. Nevertheless, everyone is rooting for Shazier to make a monumental return.
