The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered another early playoff exit after a disappointing loss in the divisional round against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As a result, majority owner Art Rooney is feeling some pressure to part ways with head coach Mike Tomlin.

It marked the third time in the last four years that the team has bowed out in the divisional round or earlier. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, some minority Steelers owners are pushing Rooney to seriously consider firing Tomlin.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, some of the team’s limited partners intend to lobby owner Art Rooney to fire of Tomlin and to hire a new coach.

Although Tomlin continues to keep the Steelers in the playoff picture, with eight appearances in 11 seasons including a Super Bowl win, the franchise has underachieved based on the talent that they possess. Pittsburgh was in prime position to potentially make a deep playoff run after garnering a first-round bye and a 13-3 regular season record.

Many felt that this year they could finally break through and get past the Patriots in the playoffs on the way to their third Super Bowl appearance under Tomlin. Instead, the Steelers fell short in disappointing fashion.

During his tenure, Tomlin holds an impressive 116-60 record in the regular season while leading the team to six AFC North division titles, a .500 or better record in each campaign, a Super Bowl win, and an 8-7 mark in the postseason. Given his success, the 45-year-old would quickly land a job elsewhere if Pittsburgh lets him go.

Keep in mind, Tomlin inked a two-year extension with the team going through the 2020 season. Things could certainly pick up on this front in the coming weeks, with the organization getting a better assessment of the situation before making a decision.
