The Pittsburgh Steelers got some encouraging update on the status of TJ Watt, who exited Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions with hip and knee injuries.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the MRIs on Watt's hip and knee came out negative. While he is still feeling sore after getting banged up in their Week 10 game, it is undoubtedly good news that he avoided any structural damage.

For what it's worth, earlier on Monday, there were fears that the star defensive lineman will miss some time due to the injuries he sustained. After all, knee injuries are already to recover and get back from, but adding a hip issue makes things even more complicated.

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said before the Steelers revealed the results of the MRIs on TJ Watt, he is “week-to-week with hip and knee ailments” and “is expected to miss some time.”

There is still no timetable for Watt's return and the Steelers are expected to be cautious with his condition since they can't afford to worsen his condition and lose him far longer. However, based on the results of the MRI, it doesn't look like the 27-year-old will be sidelined for long.

Pittsburgh needs Watt if they still want to turn their season around. They are 5-3 on the season with a good chance to win the AFC North, but given how close the division is, they can't afford to slip up as the second half of the season heats up.
