The Pittsburgh Steelers are still missing the services of running back Le’Veon Bell, but second-year pro James Conner has been quite a productive placeholder for Bell in the backfield.

Bell may be away from the team, but his absence doesn’t mean he’s ignoring the progress of the Steelers while he continues to be a no-show. In fact, he’s obviously paying attention to how Pittsburgh is doing in Thursday Night Football’s matchup at home against the visiting Carolina Panthers, as evidenced by this tweet he posted right after James Conner scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter to expand the Steelers’ lead to 16 points.

It’s Conner’s 10th rushing score of the season, a feat that Le’Veon Bell has yet to accomplish in his NFL career, as pointed out by Evan Kaplan of ESPN.

That's the 10th rushing TD for James Conner this season, and it's only Week 10. Le'Veon Bell has never had 10 rushing touchdowns in a season.

Bell was rumored to be close to returning to the Steelers prior to the meeting with the Steelers after he tweeted that he’s leaving Miami and was spotted playing pickup basketball in Pittsburgh. That didn’t turn out to be the case, however, as the Steelers’ franchise tag offer remains unsigned on Bell’s table.

The deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign tenders is on Nov. 13. If Bell lets that date pass without him putting ink on paper, he’ll be deemed ineligible to play this season.

As talented as Bell is, the Steelers are showing they can live and succeed without him so far this season. The team entered Week 10 with a 5-2-1 record and on a four-game winning streak.
