Wednesday marked Max Kellerman's final day on ESPN's First Take after a memorable five-year run. Unfortunately, Stephen A Smith was not in the studio to bid his buddy farewell on his last day, but the renowned ESPN anchor made sure to call in to say goodbye.

It was Stephen A himself who shared a clip of his emotional exchange with Kellerman via Twitter:

“I’m really sorry I couldn’t be there to tell you face-to-face to thank you for everything you did for the show,” Smith said, via Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World. “You’re going to be doing big things like you’re always doing big things.”

Kellerman appeared to be genuinely thankful to Smith for his message and for everything that they accomplished together on the show over the past half-decade. Despite the ups and downs, Max reiterated that he “wouldn't trade the last five years for anything.”

It is interesting to note that there are rumors about how Stephen A Smith played a hand in Kellerman's removal from the show. It seems that these two didn't exactly see eye to eye, and it was Smith who allegedly demanded that Kellerman be fired from First Take.

Based on their conversation above, however, it doesn't sound like there's a rift between them. Then again, it's hard not to wonder if there really is more to this than what's on the surface.

Max ended his brief monologue with a lasting quote:

“All things come to an end, and this is the end to my run on ‘First Take,’” Kellerman concluded.

Thank you, Max, and best of luck.
