Stephen Curry is considered one of the biggest athletes across the globe and his celebrity status could unintentionally cause harm. Despite him not committing any wrongdoings, the Golden State Warriors star point guard was named the most dangerous man on the internet in New Zealand.

Similar to other big-name celebrities, Curry is a popular search term for residents in New Zealand. At the same time, his name is constantly searched alongside terms that are associated with illegal activity on the internet.

Alex Merton-McCann, the cyber safety ambassador in Australia and New Zealand, spoke about the number of activities — including spam — that happens with popular figures like Curry.

“Deceptive practices such as fake websites promising free content can lead unsuspecting consumers to malicious sites purpose-built to steal valuable, personal information or take over devices,” Australia and NZ cyber safety ambassador Alex Merton-McCann said.

It remains to be seen what websites are being created to bamboozle fans of Curry. But in all likelihood, people are likely creating websites to sell fake merchandise or memorabilia of the three-time NBA champion.

Some people tend to disguise themselves as legitimate sources of information or retail when it comes to celebrities. And with young or unaware fans who are clamoring for items pertaining to their role models, suspicious events can unfortunately occur.

Stephen Curry has proven over the course of his career that he's arguably the most lethal shooter we've seen in the history of the NBA. However, as lethal as he is a shooter, he's even more dangerous when it comes to fraudulent incidences on the internet in New Zealand.
