Now part of the BIG3 League, Stephen Jackson has the utmost confidence that some his fellow players who will see action in it can still compete with the players in the NBA today.
During its inaugural draft held on Sunday at The Showroom at Planet Hollywood Resort Casino in Las Vegas, the 39-year-old even made a bold claim, via Alysha Tsuji of USA Today Sports, that he if he had to make a bet on who will win the NBA Finals this year, he'll have his money with the BIG3 selection as he likens their chances of winning.
“From this point forward, I started asking if these guys thought they could actually help an NBA team today. “Definitely,” said Stephen Jackson. He later added, “If we took 15 guys from this league, we could compete in the playoffs today.”
“Jackson even said it in front of all the fans in the crowd during the draft. He was asked who he’d bet his money on to win the NBA Finals this year, and he fired back saying he’d rather pick 15 BIG3 guys and take his chances.”
Jackson's comments may be a stretch and others may even consider it absurd, however, it also goes to show how much belief he has in the former NBA players, given their experience of playing at the highest level. Should they be able to successfully showcase their talents and prove that they are still as good as advertised, the BIG3 League definitely has the potential to have a huge following and even build their own fanbase.
