Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr could make a potential return to the sidelines at some point during the NBA Finals, according to a report by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Despite laying low and letting things take its course in the lead-up to this rubber match between his team and the reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers, Kerr has looked much better than he did since taking a leave of absence after Game 1 of the first round against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Acting head coach Mike Brown, spoke to ESPN's Michael Wilbon, telling him that Kerr could indeed make a return as soon as Thursday for Game 1, but that the team wouldn't know until closer to the tip-off. Brown said that if Kerr indeed returns, he'd be more than willing to take a step back and let him resume his duties with the team.

Kerr said on Monday that his status remained “up in the air” but could expect a final decision on his status, for better or worse, to be made shortly after Game 1, if not prior to it.

The 51-year-old coach had been marred with migraines and other symptoms of his offseason back surgery back in 2015, which had caused him to miss the first 43 games of the 2015-16 season, as his then-assistant Luke Walton took over control until his impending return.

Earlier this month, Kerr decided to visit specialists at Duke University midway through the team's second-round series to undergo a procedure to repair a spinal fluid leak, after finding no suitable options going to Stanford hospital.

Since then, he said he's been on-and-off with his symptoms, having good and bad days.
