Two Heisman Trophy-winning Florida Gators legends on one team in the Alliance of American Football? Why not?

As the first head coach of Orlando’s team in the AAF, Steve Spurrier is not hiding his interest in having former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow on his squad once the league’s inaugural season begins in February of next year. During an appearance on the Open Mike Radio Show on Monday, the 72-year-old Spurrier made an open invite to Tebow.

Via Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel:

“That would be wonderful,” Spurrier said on our Open Mike radio show Monday when I asked him about the potential of Tebow making a return to football in Orlando. “I think Tim knows about our league. He knows he’s welcome to come down (to Orlando) and play.

If Tebow has any inkling of joining Spurrier, he’ll have to start arranging his priorities. While Tebow is currently playing baseball for the New York Mets’ Double-A affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Spurrier also wants the two-sport athlete to know that he’s got a job reserved for him in Orlando.

“Obviously, if his baseball career is going well, he may decide to stick with it, which I would certainly understand. But if it doesn’t go to well and he has the urge to play football, we would certainly welcome him in Orlando.”

Tim Tebow, who was selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft following a legendary college career that saw him lead the Gators to two BCS national titles while also picking up a Heisman Trophy along the way, last saw action in the NFL for the New York Jets way back in 2012.

Spurrier, meanwhile, played football for the Gators from 1963 to 1966 before launching a solid coaching career in the college ranks which ended in 2015.
