Prior to the start of training camp, early evaluations on Phoenix Suns forward Alan Williams revealed a partially-torn meniscus, according to a dual report by ESPN's Chris Haynes and Marc J. Spears.

The big man is expected to undergo an MRI on Saturday to confirm the extent of the injury, which he suffered by landing on a teammate's foot during a workout.

Williams had proved to be a valuable rebounder and energy presence off the Phoenix bench last season, especially during a prolonged absence from veteran center Tyson Chandler.

“Big Sauce” had fit in well in the pick-and-roll game with Eric Bledsoe and Tyler Ulis, averaging 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds through 47 games last season.

The UC Santa Barbara product was slated to get some run this season, but could likely spend some time on the shelf this season if the injury requires surgery, potentially sidelining him for months.

The Suns recently signed former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett to a non-guaranteed deal — player who could take Williams' role on the bench if he's unable to participate going forward.

Williams signed a three-year, $17 million deal with the Suns this offseason after making a whisker shy of a million dollars in his first two years with the team as an undrafted free agent.
