Despite the rumors of a deep interest in Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer, the Phoenix Suns will interview former Memphis Grizzlies coach David Fizdale, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The 43-year-old spent time as an assistant for the Golden State Warriors, the Atlanta Hawks, and most notably for the Miami Heat before getting his first shot at a head coaching gig, one that was cut short a little after one season after a disappointing start that would spell the team's direction for the rest of the season.

Fizdale led the Grizzlies to 43 wins in 2016-17 and a playoff appearance in his first season as an NBA head coach.

While candidates like Villanova's Jay Wright have arisen as prominent names to fill the vacancies around the league, the Suns are expected to prioritize success at the NBA level in their search.

Phoenix has had a great level of instability in recent memory, as their star player Devin Booker has seen three head coaches during his three seasons in the league, allowing for minimal continuity.

With a pending rookie extension on the line, the coach will have to be in line with Booker as the talisman of this team, and willing to build a system around him moving forward.
