Devin Booker joined the Phoenix Suns for Friday's practice after the 24-year-old was recently cleared of COVID-19. Booker had quite a few things to say about the hot topic of vaccination, which started off with his confirmation that he is indeed fully vaccinated.

The Suns announced on Sunday that Booker was set to miss the first few days of training camp due to health and safety protocols. The two-time All-Star has since been cleared, and unsurprisingly, the topic of discussion during his press conference centered around the COVID-19 vaccine (h/t Duane Rankin of azcentral):

Booker started off by attempting to fend off the topic. It seems like the Suns star wanted to sidestep the issue and talk about basketball-related matters instead:

“I feel like that shouldn’t be the topic of discussion,” Booker said, via Kellan Olson of Arizona Sports. “I stayed at home for media day and looking for a quote on some type of basketball and I didn’t see anything.”

The reporter was having none of it, though, and he decided to press further. This time around, Booker was asked point-blank to share his thoughts on Kyrie Irving's refusal to get the vaccine. Based on his statement, it sounds like the Suns star is offering his full support for Kyrie:

“I feel like everybody should have their own right and their own decision on what they are doing with their body,” he said. “And that was my decision, to get vaccinated.”

Irving has been crucified for his stance against the COVID-19 vaccine, but for his part, Booker could not help but empathize with the embattled Nets guard:

“We’re basketball players, man,” Booker said. “And to be highlighting the vaccine and putting that pressure on type of guys, what they should do and what they shouldn’t do with their bodies — I feel (it was) just too much.

“I can only imagine how it feels for people that aren’t vaccinated that are having that pressure of people trying to tell them what to do with their bodies.”

The issue of the COVID-19 vaccine has undeniably become the most polarizing topic not only within the NBA but across the globe as well. Devin Booker shares a particularly interesting viewpoint here coming from a guy who himself is fully vaccinated, and also from someone who actually contracted the dreaded disease as well.
