The Phoenix Suns have been the NBA's surprise team of the 2019-20 season so far. Currently at eighth in the Western Conference, it's safe to say that Phoenix has exceeded any of the preseason expectations projected for them.

As for Suns star Devin Booker, he's just excited to finally be part of a competitive team for the first time in his career.

“This city deserves it,” Booker said per Michael Lee of The Athletic. “I’ve been here, putting my head down, grinding, you know, these past five years, trying to get to this point, to at least give them competitive basketball. So I think with the team that we have, the culture that we have, that coach Monty has put together, this is the best position that we’ve been in since I’ve been here, to make those dreams and aspirations come to life. I’m in the middle of it right now, I’m not trying to get too excited but playing competitive basketball is something that’s keeping me going right now.”

Booker has been with the franchise since the 2015-16 season and it is only now that he is experiencing being a part of a competitive roster.

Much of their success can be attributed to their great off-season additions this past summer. They were able to nab the services of player-friendly head coach Monty Williams, who has steered this young squad in the right direction so far this season. Likewise, the acquisition of veterans like Ricky Rubio and Aron Baynes have also been huge for them.

Despite an early season blow in losing last year's no. 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton to suspension, the Suns have done a magnificent job in having a breakthrough 2019-20 campaign. They should be in the mix for their first playoff berth in nearly a decade for the rest of the season.
