Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker will be out indefinitely as the guard is set to go under the knife for a hand surgery.

As reported by 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, Booker will head to Los Angeles for the surgery and will likely miss the beginning of his team's training camp on September 25. The team's first regular season game will be on October 17 against the Dallas Mavericks.

The 21-year-old Booker sustained the right-hand injury during a practice game on March 14. The following day, the Suns played against the Utah Jazz and Booker shot 3-of-18. He subsequently missed the last 12 games of the season where he was required to wear a splint.

Booker is touted as one of the top rising stars in today's NBA. Many have tagged him a scoring prodigy — reminiscent of those stars that came before him. Over the summer, he signed a five-year max contract extension worth $158 million. Last season, he logged in 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

During the signing of his contract extension, Booker said, per NBA.com:

“I am humbled and honored to commit to the Suns organization long term,” said Booker. “I have loved calling Phoenix home the last three seasons as this team and community are special to me. Thank you to the Suns for drafting me and believing in me. I look forward to the future and pursuing a title as a Phoenix Sun.”

As it turns out, Deandre Ayton's Kobe Bryant-Shaquille O'Neal comparison of him and Booker will have to be benched for now.
