Devin Booker is standing by his belief there is nothing wrong in rewarding the Phoenix Suns fan who went viral after fighting two Denver Nuggets supporters during their second round playoffs series.

To recall, Nick McKellar–the Suns faithful in question–got into a brawl with a couple of Nuggets fans during Game 3 of the series. They were apparently trash-talking with each other, but punches were thrown after one of the Denver fans poured beer on McKellar. After seeing the video, Booker then tracked McKellar and eventually hooked him up with a signed jersey and tickets  to the Western Conference Finals.

While it was certainly a great gesture,  some people questioned the decision. For one, 2016 NBA champion Richard Jefferson criticized the Suns star and emphasized it might set a “bad precedent”–implying that violent behavior of such nature should not be tolerated or celebrated.

In response to the criticisms, however, Booker shared that he believes there is no “bad intention” in the fight and that McKellar is simply acting in self-defense.

“I just said what's up. I watched the whole video. I didn't expect it to turn out to everything it is but he's gonna be in the house, he's gonna be at the game. We're looking forward to it. He's highly spirited for this team,” the Suns star shared, per Kellan Olson of 98.7 Arizona Sports.

“You can go down the line and say if it was self-defense or not. I know that's what everybody wants to hear but if you watch the full video I think he's a pretty wholesome guy that had no wrong intention and was forced to be put in that situation.”

True enough, given the recent incidents involving NBA fans, there is reason to be concerned with Devin Booker's actions. For what it's worth, though, McKellar has already apologized and also noted that he's only defending himself at the moment.

It will probably be better for Booker to ignore all the unnecessary noise as he gears up for the West Finals against the Los Angeles Clippers. After all, with Chris Paul sidelined, the team will need him to be 100 percent focused.
