Phoenix Suns general manager James Jones didn't trade for small forward Kelly Oubre for a short term acquisition, as the 38-year-old wants Oubre to be with the organization for a long time.

The Suns acquired Oubre on Dec. 17 from the Washington Wizards in the Trevor Ariza trade. The 23-year-old swingman will become a restricted free agent after this season ends if Phoenix offers him a $4.49 million qualifying offer.

As a restricted free agent, Oubre has the option of signing an offer sheet with another team if he wants to, and then the Suns would have 48 hours to match the deal or let him walk.

Kelly Oubre has appeared in 11 games with the Suns. The lefty is averaging 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest with Phoenix while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 85.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Suns enter Wednesday with a record of just 10-32, 15th place in the Western Conference standings.

It looks likes James Jones wants to build the team around star shooting guard Devin Booker, rookie big man Deandre Ayton, and Kelly Oubre. It's going to be a long time until we see Phoenix in the playoffs.

Oubre has said he likes playing for the Suns, but if he gets a lucrative offer sheet in the offseason, there is no guarantee the Suns would match it despite Jones' comments.
