When the remainder of the 2020 NBA All-Star Game rosters were revealed Thursday evening for the Feb. 16 contest, there was one notable name missing from the Western Conference backcourt: Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker. It wasn't just fans who found the decision to leave Booker on the outside looking in confounding, but also Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, who chimed in with his opinion:

Young, of course, was named a starter in the Eastern Conference. He enters play Thursday third in the league at 29.2 points per game, just 2.1 points on a nightly basis higher than that of Booker of the Suns, who sits eighth in the league with 27.1.

Booker, who is in the midst of his fifth professional season, has shot 51 percent from the floor overall across his first 44 games of the 2019-20 campaign. His scoring average is on pace to set a new career best, while he has also pitched in 6.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

The Western Conference reserves who made the team ahead of Booker — Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook — undoubtedly have established themselves around the league with a bit more frequency, and in the case of Mitchell, Paul and Westbrook, have helped lead their teams to successful records heading into the All-Star break.

It's still within the realm of possibility that Booker could be named to the contest should a player go down with an injury over the next few weeks, but for now, he will eye 2020-21 as his proving ground to try and become a first-time All-Star.
