Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker has been one of the most exciting young players to watch in the NBA for a few years now.  Every season, he makes improvements that take his game to a new level.

Now, Booker has the chance to not only improve his game but get a few extra bucks along the way.

His contract is structured with multiple incentives that if reached, can increase his already large $158M contract by a whopping 30 percent.

However, it's not exactly going to be a cakewalk to all this extra cash.

Per Evan Sidery of Bright Side of the Sun, the first incentive on Booker's contract is achieved by making any of the All-NBA teams.

“If Booker were to make one of the three All-NBA teams, the fourth-year guard would see his 2019-20 salary jump to $29.98 million.”

This is a daunting task in a league that is now dominated by superstar guards.  There are only a total of six spots for guards, so Booker would have to crack the top six in order to get the increase. That would mean beating out one of Russel Westbrook, Steph Curry, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, or Damian Lillard, who have all placed on the teams.

The second incentive is even tougher to achieve but would reward Booker handsomely.

“Taking up 30% of Phoenix’s cap sheet likely would mean Booker becoming the league’s MVP at only 22 years of age if his contract indeed also contains an escalator for winning MVP. He would join only Derrick Rose as the youngest players to bring home the award, which would kick his maximum extension off at $32.7 million, an increase of $5.45 million compared with the original contract he inked.”

While an MVP award seems like it is a distance away for Devin Booker, he certainly has the skill and talent to eventually get there. If he continues making the leaps that we have seen and the Suns drastically improve, it could even be sooner rather then later.
