Former Phoenix Suns team owner Jerry Colangelo thinks Monty Williams is going to do a fantastic job as the head coach of the Suns.

The Suns signed Williams to a five-year deal last week. Colangelo has worked with Williams on Team USA and says 47-year-old is “the whole package.”

“He’s the whole package,” Colangelo said, via Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. “I’m very excited for the opportunity he has to coach in Phoenix and he’s going to do a great job.

“There’s been a commitment made of five years. It starts with that. I think after all the starts and stops, all the adversity, the timing is right for the organization to do what they did. They’ve picked the right guy. There’s good, young talent, draft picks on the board. I just think the clouds have parted a little bit here and I think fans will really take to Monty Williams.”

Williams will remain with the Philadelphia 76ers until they are eliminated from the playoffs. He was head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans for five seasons. Williams went 173-221 in the regular season and 2-8 in the postseason.

The Suns finished with the worst record in the Western Conference in 2018-19 for the second-straight season.

Williams has his work cut out for him in Phoenix.
