Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges sustained an elbow injury in Wednesday's preseason matchup against the New Zealand Breakers and was held out of Friday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Though his injury doesn't seem to be severe, the Suns have decided to shut him down for roughly one week.

Following Friday's loss to the Blazers, Gina Mizell of The Athletic spoke to Suns head coach Igor Kokoskov with regards to the injury Bridges sustained.

Phoenix is a team with several talented wing players. And though he's brimming with talent, Bridges hasn't seen much action in the Suns' first three exhibition games. He played 12 minutes in the preseason opener and 19 against the Breakers.

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Bridges with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft. The former Villanova standout was traded that night to the Suns, who gave him a shot to compete alongside No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton in the 2018 NBA Summer League.

Over the course of his three-year career at Villanova, Bridges racked up averages of 11.3 points on 52.5 percent shooting from the field (40.0 percent from beyond the arc), 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 27.3 minutes per outing. His most productive season with the Wildcats came in his senior year, when he posted 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per contest to help win a second national championship in three years.

The Suns will be back in action on Monday night, when they'll travel to Oracle Arena for a matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. ET with NBA TV having live broadcast coverage.
