Monty Williams isn't going somewhere else's bench any time soon after Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the 2022 NBA Coach of the Year winner has agreed to a long-term extension deal with the Phoenix Suns.

ESPN Sources: Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has agreed on a long-term contract extension. Williams, the NBA’s coach of the year, had two years left on his original five-year deal — and now moves under contract for several more seasons.

That the Suns want Williams for the long haul is barely a surprise. With what the team has accomplished and reached during his tenure as Phoenix's head coach so far, it makes plenty of sense why the franchise would love to keep him beyond the lifespan of his current deal. Williams is almost certain to sign this new contract, and he will have a genuinely great young core on the team to help him bring Phoenix that elusive NBA title.

Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges are all under the Suns' control for the next few years. Chris Paul is also still with the Suns, and while he is already 37, he has been aging gracefully in the NBA. Under Williams, the Suns have reached the NBA Playoffs in each of the past two seasons, even coming two wins away from winning it all in 2021 when they made the NBA Finals and lost to the Milwaukee Bucks despite taking the first two games of that series.

Monty Williams and the Suns will enter the 2022-23 NBA season with some bitter taste to rinse off their mouths after another disappointing experience in the playoffs, having been eliminated by Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

Nevertheless, the Suns are viewed as a serious contender not only to win the Western Conference but to bring home the Larry O'Brien Trophy to the desert.
