The Dallas Mavericks' 123-90 Game 7 victory over the Phoenix Suns was one of the most shocking outcomes in NBA history. The Suns were a juggernaut all season with 64 wins, only to roll over and die on their home floor in Game 7. They managed just 27 first-half points, getting matched by Mavs star Luka Doncic in the process, and trailed by as many as 46 points in the embarrassing defeat.

Things were so bad that the Suns organization effectively put out an apology letter on Monday:

It was truly a tour de force performance by Luka Doncic and the Mavs. Again, Doncic matched the Suns by himself in the first half, scoring 27 points as Dallas racked up a 57-27 lead at the break. He wound up with 35 points in 30 minutes. Spencer Dinwiddie added 30 points off the bench, while Jalen Brunson poured in 24 points.

As for the Suns, Cam Johnson led them with a mere 12 points. Devin Booker and Chris Paul struggled to the tune of 21 combined points, and a good chunk of those came when the game was already well out of hand. Deandre Ayton only played 17 minutes, with drama surrounding him and Monty Williams during the blowout.

It was a truly stunning outcome for a Suns team that reached the NBA Finals last season and then dominated the 2021-22 regular season. The Mavs deserve a ton of credit for the adjustments they made in this series and for their Game 7 effort, but Phoenix's performance on Sunday was appalling. No wonder they put out this statement, even if it almost would have been better just to lay low.
