The Phoenix Suns have reportedly spoken to Kevin McHale about their general manager job, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The Suns also have interest in Jim Paxson.

McHale currently works for TNT. The Hall of Famer was the head coach and general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves and coached the Houston Rockets as well.

Jim Paxson is the brother of Chicago Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson. He was the Cleveland Cavaliers' general manager before.

The Suns fired Ryan McDonough right before the season started. James Jones and assistant general manager Trevor Bukstein have shared general manager duties since then.

Phoenix has the worst record in the Western Conference at 17-55.

Whoever takes the Suns' general manager job is going to have a lot on their plate. Phoenix is believed to be years away from even becoming a mediocre team again. Landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and getting Duke star Zion Williamson would help.

The core as of now in Phoenix is shooting guard Devin Booker, center Deandre Ayton and small forward Josh Jackson. Booker signed a long-term extension with the franchise last summer.

Ayton is finishing his rookie season, while Jackson is in his second year.
