The Phoenix Suns tried to trade for Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon ahead of the deadline last month, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Gordon's name popped up in rumors with numerous teams in the lead-up to the trade deadline, but the Magic ultimately stood pat. Charania notes that Gordon will likely generate more interest this coming summer.

In 55 games this season, Gordon is averaging 14.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 32.9 minutes per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor, 30.9 percent from three-point range and 67.4 percent from the free-throw line.

It has been an overall disappointing campaign for the 24-year-old, who is currently in the second year of a four-year, $80 million contract extension he signed with Orlando in 2018.

Gordon, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Arizona, was originally selected by the Magic with the fourth overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft.

Due to his versatility on both ends of the floor, Gordon drew some comparisons to former Suns star Shawn Marion right off the bat.

Gordon got off to a slow start, logging just 5.2 points and 3.6 boards a night in 47 games during his rookie year, but the following season, he began to show signs of life, registering 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in 78 contests and 37 starts.

The San Jose native didn't really break out until his fourth season, when he posted 17.6 points, 7.9 boards, 2.3 assists and one steal per game, which led to his multi-year extension with Orlando.

The Magic are just 27-35 on the year and sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
