Phoenix Suns rookie Josh Jackson has not been having a great start to his NBA career. The No. 4 overall pick out of Kansas is averaging 8.9 points while shooting under 38 percent from the floor. His last two games, in particular, have been ugly as he’s gone just 3-of-21.

In the wake of those two awful performances, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has felt the need to step in and offer some advice for his struggling young player.

Per Michael Gallagher of Yahoo! Sports:

Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said he talked to Josh Jackson today, saying he told him to slow down a bit and not force things.

As a top pick, Jackson is likely feeling some pressure to perform, especially in the absence of Suns star Devin Booker. However, his offensive game is obviously still a work in progress, and his performance hasn’t been helped by his pressing.

Jackson is a talented player with the tools to succeed in the league. But right now, he needs to temper his youthful exuberance and play smarter basketball in order to give his team a better chance to win.

It’s a difficult balancing act for a young player to do, but hopefully, this current rough stretch becomes a good learning experience for him moving forward.
