The Phoenix Suns have nothing but pride that they have James Jones on their side, the guy who made it to seven straight NBA Finals appearances.

Via their Twitter account, the Suns tweeted that they are happy that Jones, nicknamed “Champ” by his teammates, is on their team:

The tweet also includes a statistic noting that for the first time in eight years, Jones is not part of an NBA Finals roster.

To recall, Jones, along with LeBron James, started their streak back with the Miami Heat in 2010. Out of seven straight finals appearances, Jones has won three rings.

He retired last year and not long after, he joined the Suns' franchise as vice president of basketball operations. His responsibilities include overseeing all basketball-related matters which include the NBA Draft, free agency, and trades.

Jones is known as a marksman from downtown. But more than his sharpshootings skills, his former teammates and everyone he's worked with has praised his professionalism and basketball IQ:

Perry Clark, Jones' coach in college shared, as per Alex Wong of Slam Online:

“LeBron respects certain characteristics in people, and James has those,” Clark says. “James can really sit down and break down and analyze a game. He knows how to communicate and make people feel comfortable around him.”

Jones, for his part, shared his mission and vision:

“I’m about winning,” Jones says. “My guys know that. And once they know that, it allows me to be honest with them, because there’s no ulterior motive. I was invested in their personal success. I wanted to be aware [of everything] so in those crucial moments, I can provide some insight that matters when they’re looking for someone to give it to them straight.”
