It looks like the Phoenix Suns have already their found their new head coach, and he's sitting right under their noses.

The Suns are reportedly looking into keeping interim head coach Jay Triano for the long term, per Marc Stein's newsletter for the New York Times.

Triano is one of two interim coaches in the league at present, along with Memphis’ J.B. Bickerstaff, but the signals I’m getting suggest that the Suns — focusing on player development more than the results in the standings — are leaning toward making Triano their full-time replacement for Earl Watson.

The Suns fired Watson after just three games, during which time Phoenix went 0-3. It was the fastest head coach firing in NBA history. Watson finished 33-85 while coaching there.

The Suns soon after named Triano as their interim coach. Usually interim coaches are just stopgaps until a team finds a replacement, which many times does not happen during the season, but it's been known to happen from time to time. Sometimes, interim coaches do a good enough job that they are named head coach and giving a contract.

Triano has won 16 games as head coach of the Suns, who are 11th in the Western Conference at 16-29. He clearly has earned the trust of the Suns organization to this point, and it appears the players have responded to him.

Triano previously coached the Toronto Raptors for three years, from 2008-2011, per Basketball-Reference. He has also been an assistant coach with the Raptors and for the Portland Trail Blazers before moving on to the Suns.
