The Phoenix Suns are fresh off the NBA Draft where they hope they acquired the next pieces to the puzzle. Heading into free agency, Phoenix has some difficult decisions to make and the first casualties are Elfrid Payton and Alex Len. According to Scott Bordow of AZCentral.com, the Suns will not re-sign Payton or Len. This will free up approximately $10 million for the Suns in cap space.

Payton only played in 19 games for Phoenix as he was traded from the Orlando Magic for a 2018 second-round pick that would eventually become Jarred Vanderbilt. Payton spent three and a half of his first four seasons in Orlando.

Alex Len, on the other hand, has played the entirety of his career in Phoenix. The 25-year-old center is the former fifth overall pick and he hasn't quite lived up to expectations in Phoenix. Len failed to average double figures in scoring in all five of his years with the Suns.

With the drafting of DeAndre Ayton first overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Len became a disposable piece for the Suns' frontcourt. Not quite the kind of experienced veteran that Ayton could learn under, while simultaneously being too old to be considered a piece to build around for the future.

Both Len and Payton certainly have a place somewhere in the NBA, but it's clear that the Suns wish to move on. It may be a blessing in disguise for the two as sometimes a change of scenery can be enough to kickstart a career.
