The Phoenix Suns turned a lot of heads when they traded for Chris Paul in the offseason. Adding CP3 was bound to help the young team to a degree, but now about 10% of the way through the season, the Suns have the second-best record in the Western Conference.

On the daily Locked On Suns Podcast, host Brendon Kleen was joined by Nekias Duncan to discuss the Suns' hot start and the most surprising thing about their success.

Nekias Duncan: I wanted to write about them (the Suns) at some point… so obviously I wanted to talk about Devin Booker and how Chris Paul's helped, but I just couldn't get past the defense. I expected the defense to be pretty good this year. I thought they're going to flirt with a top 10 defense, in that range, which would be a massive improvement, but they have been nothing short of elite. Chris Paul is still kicking, Devin Booker he's seen some improvement, Mikal Bridges… we could just have a whole podcast on Mikal Bridges.

Brendon Kleen: I'd be happy to!

Nekias Duncan: He is one of my favorite players to watch. He is a joy to watch on defense. He's nothing but arms and legs and slithers through picks. He just blows stuff up on and off the ball. He's tremendous. Jae Crowder is still doing his thing defensively. I still don't want him out on guards, but he fights in the post, he's a smart help guy with those dig-and-recover sequences. DeAndre Ayton has built on his strong defense of showing from last year. anchoring things in the drop (for the Suns).
